Letting the Good Times Roll.

My friend, Lucy, finally took her MCAT yesterday so we went out to celebrate. I haven't been out much lately for a couple of reasons 1) schoolwork is overbearing, 2) I live too far away, and 3) no saying I get hit on all the time but when I do, I just can't even handle it anymore, par example:

We went to this new bar that was totally whacky and weird, very normal for the location. The bar was like a display case of this you could buy like jewelry and little figurines. Also there was a Shakeweight, how freaky are those things? So we get drinks and sit at a table, one of the girls goes to the restroom so we now have an open chair. We this guy comes over and just butts into the conversation then all the sudden introduces himself as Andrew. He then proceeds to go around the table and have us introduce ourselves, and I, of course, was Aurora... my pseudonym for occasions such as these. No else could come up with anything. Suckers.

He then tells us that he just moved here from Oregon.. 4 years ago. What the heck? I was like "well me too, welcome to the neighborhood?" I mean he 'just' moved here... what a joke. And usual nice me would have gone on to talk about Oregon since that's where Blake lives but I just want the poor kid to leave so instead I just say "My boyfriend is from Oregon he lives in Corvallis, and what part are you from?' "Salem" "Oh, with all the witches?" "Yeah I guess.." "Well it was nice meeting you Andrew, have a great night." and with that, he takes his cue and leaves.... halleluja.

The rest of the night we went to a couple other bars and just had a grand ole time.

Today I went to pick Briana up from the airpot (she got me an Einstein's gift card.. she knows me too well) and I had to run down to campus to pick up the rest of Blake and my's pictures from Lexi. As we were heading back to her house we are at a stoplight when all of the sudden the in car next to us... this guy (who I originally thought was a girl due to the blond ponytail) starts vomiting out of the side of his car!?! Just projectile barfing all over the place... and more than 5 times at least. It was nuts! Briana was worried what the status of his driving ability would be and we were anticipating him to pullover, but like a college co ed champion... he drove on. Freak.

Some people are so weird.

Party Hole...Pause.

First of all, I stand corrected. My wonderful boyfriend just pointed out to me that when he first told me he 'still loved chicken' was when my family was visiting my grandparents in Virginia one Christmas and his family was living there at the time so we met up. It was at Potomac Hills Mall and we were catching up. He wins :)

Okay, second of all... I cannot believe I forgot to blog about this until now but I must recall an experience I had recently at the golf course:

It was about 3 or 4 weeks ago and I was on the schedule to be a 'keg girl' for one of the tournaments being hosted at the course. The tournament was for the Easter Seals Foundation which is a great cause for helping in disability services. Well the hold a tournament once a year, huge event with a million volunteers, 3 kegs at different holes, and just non stop gimmicks for buying raffle tickets.

I was first assigned to help put the kegs at each hole and then my designated hole... (Oh now I remember I did talk about this briefly because it was on April Fools Day and everyone thought it was my birthday, okay so you have a little info already). Anyway I was on hole 12 where if you thought you could hit the ball farther that a former university basketball player than you could double your tickets for the raffle. He was so bad at golf but so good at geting guys to buy tickets because he would even go first... so they all bought and all doubled. He may have even hit a bunny at one point... we heard a yelp.

Well the keg was free for players and volunteers so needless to say everyone at my hole was drunk. Also need I remind you my prank that day was that it was my birthday so everyone would drink extra because of me. But the worst part was, my tap was broken. I had to constantly keep pumping to get anything to come out (that's what she said) and I had to do it for a whole minute at one point because it wouldn't hold any pressure. So needless to say with a shotty tap, a tent full of drunkards, and everyone calling us the 'Party Hole'... it was a day full of 'that's what she saids'... which are my favorite, and I rarely miss one.

Well the former football player would help me pump the keg and he was telling me that the new thing is to say 'pause' instead. He gave the example that he and the basketball guy were at Subway when the lady behind the counter suggested he put pepperoni on his sandwich. He asked her why she would do that and she said "Well, its like an explosion in your mouth" and he said "Pause.... nah I don't nothing exploding in my mouth!"... everything thought that was the funniest thing ever so the new word is 'pause'.

There we a lot of local celebrities at the event. The Appliance King who has the most outrageous commercials and then shows up about 4'11''... He tried to fix my tap... didn't work again. Then some traffic announcer was there too. I hope I'm not considered a local yet....

Laying Down the Law.

I am sitting on my bed, attempting to do work for my online classes and I am hearing this faded noise in the background of something. I cannot place where it is coming from nor can I decipher what it is, I can just faintly hear the words and feel the bass.

The roommate walks near my room so I realize it is not from her television and I tell her I hear something but she assures me she doesn't.... big surprise. I finally look out my window and see a car with windows rolled down almost directly in front of our house. I can hear the radio from this car and it is rather distracting, to say the least. Since I have ben hearing this noise for sometime without being able to place where it was coming from AND I have no idea what the intentions are from this driver.... I decide to get dressed (yes it is noon and I am still in my PJs) and go out there to ask them to move.

I decide the best way would be to go out the back and then hop the brick wall to see whats going on. I do, and find that it is a middle aged Asian woman listening to her radio far too loud. I walk up and ask her if she lives in the neighborhood and if she is waiting for someone. I eventually learn she is waiting for the bus (I assume she is picking a child up from off the bus) and will only be there until it arrives. Well I inform her that I am busy with homework and would she mind either turning down the music or moving to the CUL DE SAC where no houses can be bothered.... She decided that turning down the volume was sufficient.

I would have probably left her alone if it had not been for the kids-trying-to-sneak-into-the-community-pool business my dad and I encountered a few weeks ago, but I had no clue as to why she was there. Also I was asked to work at the club when the Home Owners Association meeting was to be held so I made sure to add my two cents from behind the bar and opt for a placing of a "You will be towed if you park behind my house cause its creepy" sign. Everyone was for it after I told the 'Trespass at your own risk' story.

Also I grilled today. May not have been the best chicken in the world but Blake would have loved it. (He loves ALL chicken). Back before we were together and merely best friends, I called him up because we had not spoken in awhile. We were making small talk when I asked him what was up in his world and he replied "Well, I still love chicken". Best. Response. Ever. My dad liked it to when I relayed the conversation. That boy is clever :)

I also had to run and get milk from Safeway today and they have fresh bread made every hour on the hour so I picked me up some of that and do you know, it is like heaven in your mouth. All nice and warm, extra delicious.

First Things Second.

You should be all happy to know that I did not press snooze even ONCE this whole Lent. Although I did just turn my alarm off and go back to sleep for unmeasured amounts of time but thats hardly the case.

I had a beautiful Easter with the roommate. We went to church and there was an Easter play which got me all teary eyed. Also there was a donkey AND horse present.... and if you did not know, I am highly allergic horses. I told my roommate not to touch it, or else. Unfortunately the sermon was a little longer than we expected and we had to duck out early during the personal testimonies in order to make our brunch... reserva... well we just were hungry, alright? I cried during the crucifixion, that should be enough. Also brunch was delicious.

First things second, I was at the all wonderful public library once again writing a paper on middle adulthood today... wooo... and I encountered a rather unusual experience. Long story short... a little girl peed her pants right in front of me. Then I had to alert her father of this unfortunate event. This is basically how it went down:

  • Family shows up and son hops on computer while a definitely only 4 years-old daughter wants to play Chess. Chess? Okay, whatever, I can deal. Her father is trying to teach her.
  • She then moves on to Monopoly and just arranges all the pieces and money and what not. I guess the father was off somewhere looking up books.
  • Then she decides to move onto Trivial Pursuit... really? I go back to writing my paper trying to ignore the happenings around me when I look up and notice something strange...
  • The little girl is wearing purple skort thing with tennis shoes and now her legs are wet, she is doing the dance around where her brother in on the computer and cannot see her. Also her father is now on the computer and cannot see her either.
  • I quickly realize what is going on and that I am going to have to tell him because it is clearly obvious that she is not going to considering she is now backing down the aisles to hang her head in shame (I assume).
  • I get up and tap her father on the shoulder "Um sir, I think your daughter had an accident"
  • He looks at me in horror and then I realize he probably thinks she is hurt so I quickly blurt out "I mean she peed her pants! And she headed down that aisle." To which he replies "Oh! Got it, thanks!"
  • That man jumps up and in a series of about 5 seconds, finds his daughter, puts all his books away, logs off the computer, gets his son, and is out he door. This was definitely not a drill.

Yeah, that is exactly what went down. The grossest part was the girl still had the Trivial Pursuit dice in her hand which she placed on the computer table after she had been grabbing at her wet skirt... Exactly why I do not touch anything and am a total germaphob.... some little girl's pee could be on anything.

Now I feel bad for knocking that lady on my first library experience who disinfected her whole area... I was wishing I carried a full container of Lysol wipes on me at all times by that point.

I saved the day. Jesus saved your life. Boom. Posted.

Okay, fine.

It's time I fessed up. I have been keeping this secret for a long time and its time I come clean. It is somewhat embarrassing considering all the hate I have thrown in the direction of this now new hobby, but.... welll... here goes... I HAVE BEEN TAKING GOLF LESSONS!!

I know, I know, I am so ashamed. If you remember from my previous post Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden, I hated golf with every fiber of my being but I have now discovered a different perspective. Since my father was in town recently, he was wanting to use the golf course since he used to be a member and I decided I woud go to the range with him because he likes quality time stuff like that. And it just so happens that our neighbors had given him some old ladies clubs a while ago so I was going to try them out.  But before we could do that, we had to find the perfect bag and an Arizona one worked out just nicely. Then I got a glove and my mom's 1 size too big pink and white shoes, and then I was ready to go out to the range.

Of course, everything I thought about golf was very much influenced by Happy Gilmore, the movie.

So I think it's safe to say, I didn't have a clue as to what to do. So the pro, Brian was out there helping some people with their swings and strides on over to 'help' me out. Little did he realize that I was helpless and we eventually decide that he is going to give me some lessons.

Well, I have had 3 lessons and every now and then I get a 'Yahtzee!' (which is a less terrible than all the others, swing) But if I miss the ball completely because I am not focusing (weird), Brian makes me run up the hill to tag the tree... I had to run twice last time.

When Blake was here, we went out on Friday and he taught me how to use the driver. I went to practice a little bit today and didn't do too bad. I was listening to the new Avril Lavigne CD which was helping my focus. Also it's really good.

Lesson learned: Don't hate something that your dad, boy friend, his brothers, parents, and grandparents all love because then you will eventually have to love it... I am on my way.

Graters Gonna Grate.

The title is about being grateful but I got caught up on the "Taters gonna tate" slogan from "Haters gonna hate"... just go with it.

I am at this crossroad in my life where sometimes I feel I am slacking. At first it was rather depressing because my friends all have real jobs and I felt like my school work was a joke along with the few hours I put in at the golf course just to fill up time. Since this semester has been so much more difficult and time consuming I feel as though I am actually contributing to something (all though I am not exactly sure what yet). When my parents came to visit we had a talk and discussed how school is my main focus and they don't expect me to have any other full time responsibilities. Now that that is in all put into a better perspective, I am just trying my hardest to succeed in grad school and truly come up with a plan post-graduation (get it?).

With that being said, I would like to make a list of things that have been cheering me out of my pity party and truly showing me that I have support form my friends and loved ones.

First of all, I was rushing to get to work this morning at 9 o'clock when I reach to grab my tank top and I find this on top:

Blake left me a post-it note before he left... :) Made my whole morning brighter.

Secondly, I have been craving chocolate cake for almost three months now. I don't know if I have ever been such a chocoholic in my life, but something has got me cravin' it constantly. Especially after yoga... you know... to forget about brass concert I just attended. Anyway, my wonderful roommate has been searching for one and found a few a Costco but we weren't sure if I would actually like it and they were a little expensive so we passed. Well on the way home (I had met her there so we drove separately) she stopped into Safeway to see if she could find one... and she DID! She got me a whole chocolate cake just because she knew I wanted one... she is the best roommate ever. Dana never bought me a chocolate cake... well her mom did send us puppy chow, but that's besides the point (sorry Dana :).

Thirdly, yes thirdly. I got to see so many friend's from college over the weekend and it felt so good to see them because I love keeping up with their lives over facebook and what not, but even more importantly, they were even commenting on how they like to read my blog! It felt really good to have them say that, thanks friends!

Fourthly, everyone.... EVERYONE, loved Blake this weekend ( and who wouldn't??) and that made me very happy as well. Lyndsie even texted me today "I miss Blake" and "The summer won't be the same without him here"... how great is that? I told know she knows how I feel! But I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful man like him to love me :)

There are so many more but I don't want to keep rambling and I will cut it short tonight. Bottom line is I am more than grateful for my wonderful family and loyal friends and amazing boyfriend. Love you all.

Mwawwiage, Marriage.

I always think of two things now when I hear about marriage: The guy from Princess Bride and the Office when Phyllis gets married and Michael makes a speech beginning with Webster's Dictionary definition of a wedding as "The fusion of two metals with a hot torch." Well, close enough...

Natalie was wed this past weekend and it was one of the greatest times I have experienced with my friends and Blake. He was able to join me for the occasion so it was already going to be a wonderful time but the reception was just a whole other adventure. The reception was at a four star resort here in town and many of us had made plans to spend the night and lounge by the amazing pool the next morning.

Well the wedding started off a little late due to some late photographers but when Natalie came out, she was breathtaking. Matt was very handsome up at the altar and he had a smile from ear to ear. The priest was pretty funny, he kept trying to make jokes but he was really just confusing himself. Also it looked like he had blue hair because of the stained glass ceiling... he was a punk priest.

The peanut gallery to Blake and my right consisted of two Jews and a non-Catholic who was questioning all the rituals which provided much distraction.... but also entertainment :). One of them had never been a church before so it really was a whole new experience for him.

After the ceremony we drove to the reception but on the way Blake and I wanted to grab something to eat quickly and couldn't pass up Einstein's Bagels... only my absolute favorite! I have been thinking lately since I have been watching Pregnant in Heels on Bravo recently (A show about an expecting mother concierge for upper class New York) and I was pondering on terrible my food cravings are going to be when I eventually decide to have children.... Blake said I better live next door to a Taco Bell. I said I better OWN a Taco Bell... freaking delicious is what that is.

Regardless the bagel was excellent and my grandlittle, Emily, was there as well. We made it to the reception and the party began at the cocktail hour. Natalie and I were sorority sisters and Matt was in a fraternity so it was essentially nuts and everyone had to be reminded that it wasn't a datedash (Cassie didn't get the memo)

Another ordeal were the rumors with the bar situation during dinner and everyone was afraid of running out of the open bar so they were stocking up in order to be properly prepared... these rumors were false and we just ended up much more lively than the rest of the tables.

Another experience was found in the fact that Blake FORCED me to eat some asparagus... that's right, forced. I do not like or eat vegetables voluntarily but I did and only gagged a little.

So after we waited and waited for the senior buses to show (like at the end of a datedash) we finally went to bed and got out to the pool the next morning feel better than ever. The pool, did I mention, had a lazy river, water-slide, and a man walking around with complimentary Otter Pops. Yeah that's right. Blake referred to him as a saint which I agreed was more than appropriate, the guy was awesome.

Congratulations Natalie and Matt, one of the best nights of my life and couldn't be happier for the two of you!

Library Folk.

School work has been killing me. I feel as though whenever I turn around, I have another million assignments due and I can't keep them all straight no matter how ritually organized I am. This past Sunday night I had a 15 page paper due in my Human Diversity class on a topic of our choosing that related to the class. I chose: the Ableism of Autism. Ableism is essentially discrimination against people with disabilities and autism is sometimes so mysterious I figured it would be an excellent topic.

Now here is a somewhat side note. The in person class I just started 3 weeks ago is Self-Management Techniques and its 4 hours every Thursday with a room of about 12 people, twice my age. In this class the whole grade is based on our self-management project that we chose in order to better ourselves. What do I pick every time I ned some self-adjustment... to cease procrastination. Without fail that is what I choose and ironically I wait until the last minute to put it into effect.

Well I had a great elaborate plan of using my new techniques to work on this paper but things were already on a rocky start when I realized around March 24th that the paper was not due May 6th like I thought... it was due April 10th. First mistake. Second mistake was that I knew my parents were coming into town that whole week before and I would get nothing school wise done (but everything that had to do with house fixing). My parents leave, I have dozen of opportunities to begin, I do not wait until Saturday to go to the public library, and furiously tap this thing out.

I had never been to this library, before other than to donate books, but I knew I would hate the atmosphere so much that it would force me to not be distracted and work as fast as I could. Lucy came to study as well and boy was she prepared with her ear plugs AND noise canceling headphones... I was beyond jealous considering I was forced to listen to a very old man hack up a lung every 10 minutes like clockwork. The whole time I was 'enjoying' the library folk I was thinking of how I should be capturing every moment so I had a list up that I continually added to as the hours slowly passed.

Here is the list and I will explain the bullets later:

  • Man with avatar ponytail. Cradles it behind his back while browsing.
  • Man hacking up a lung every 10 minutes
  • Woman disinfecting computer area. Purple schrunchie. Probable cat t-shirt. Folds lysol wipe after use. Looking up Tucson vacation rentals.
  • Guy in neck brace.
  • Little girl rearranging bookmarks.
  • Mariachi band
  • Teen girl may or may not be watching something rated NC-17. Looks over shoulder every few seconds.  Screen brightness is at an all time low...
  • Girl running around with a pocket full of tictacs.
Okay let's start with the beginning. I am just getting situated, setting up my notebook and articles and what not. Man walks by looking rather clean cut (well as far as a library regular can be) from the front, turns the corner only to display the never ending party in the back that consists of a braid going all the way down to his vertical smile, butt that is. It was an avatar braid and if you haven't seen the movie I apologize because I just cannot find a good enough picture to capture the essence of this braid. Awful.

After that a woman walks over to the computer table next to me. Sits down and immediately pulls out a Lysol wipe and disinfects the entire area... leaving nothing to chance. And then continues to fold aforementioned wipe and places it meticulously next to the keyboard which she finally renders safe to touch. I almost wanted to yell out STOP! just to freak her out. Then she spends the whole time looking up rental locations in Tucson... strange.

A guy in a neck brace just casually walks by, clearly in pain but not enough to skip out on library day.

Three little girls then show up at the magazine rack. One of them has a pocketful of tictacs or something because she is running around and it sounds like hail hitting the windows. Then another one insists on rearranging all the bookmarks, one at a time, putting them in their appropriate locations.

Oh and did I forget to mention, Saturday is "Hey, guess what? The Mariachi band is going to play for an hour" day? Yeah, it is.

But the award for the biggest library weirdo goes to this teenage girl who was originally watching Pretty Little Liars on YouTube, now has her screen brightness all the way down and is continuously looking over at me to see if I can see watch she is watching... I couldn't and I think I may be glad of that.

All in all it was successful because I did finally finish my paper and also got my own library card... its an exclusive deal. It was a nice place to study, but it would have been better had I come as prepared as Lucy.

The Queen of Pranks.

Many of this may know this about me but for those of you who don't... I am the master of all pranks, an yesterday my brother called me the Queen. April Fool's Day is one of m favorite holidays because you can get away with pranking people, especially my family because they are too lazy to come up with anything back most of the time.

This year I was getting a little anxious because I had not really thought about what to do until a brilliant idea struck my mind... changing my facebook birthday. Now some would think that this is just a small change and most of my friends would pick up on it... Nope. I figured if my friends were anything like me, they just check the top right corner of their facebook everyday and wish people 'happy birthday' left and right. So I changed it two days in advance so it wasn't abnormally fishy and could hardly wait until the monday of the 1st arrived...

I woke up to a text from my friend Cassie which read "So tempted to ruin ur April fool's joke...... But i won't and will allow people to continue to pepper ur wall with bday wishes". To which I thanked her. Then I was so excited I logged on immediately and noticed it had already begun. My other friend Dana messaged me: "Nice April Fools joke! Hahaha I go "aww Lauren's bday" and then i was like "WAIT A MINUTE!!" I won't blow your prank 10 minutes in! :D See who really knows you!".

Well apparently not many people knew me or just automatically wished me well on my birthday. I had more people try to sabotage my prank more than anything and Mara went as far as to post in on her status that "It is not Lauren's birthday! She is a prankster!". But even with the saboteurs at bay, my dedicated friends persevered to wish me the happiest of days.

Unfortunately I had to work all day at the club or else I would have been monitor of the prank ruins, but the whole thing went over very well. And almost all of my friends were with 'space cadets' or truly fooled.

The last prank I pulled was saran wrapping the toilets of my old sorority house last year... genius. And before that I taped the sprayer by the sink so when anyone turned on the faucet, they were immediately sprayed with water... got my mom real good.

This year my dad ran into my room saying that my boss called and the clubhouse caught fire so I didn't have to work today. I was only surprised because he startled me awake, but I called him on his foolin'.  Then I used it on Blake via text message, got him good, too :)

But yesterday was definitely a prank-filled day because I used the birthday one at work but then told everyone 'April Fools!' quickly after. I was in charge of the keg up at one of the holes because it was a tournament for a charity. The volunteers at my hole were crazy and we had two former college athletes. WEll right as the general manager tapped the keg for me and was about to drive off he said "Oh, and everyone, its Lauren's birthday today!".... and I never said April Fools.... the whole I was 23 and the life of the party.... of course!

All in all, one of the best April Fool's Days I have ever had.... April Fool's!!

Or is it? You'll never know...
